We are team Africa, and we are very excited to travel this summer to experience the culture, people and animal species unique to Africa. We plan to travel to Tanzania for 2 weeks in June, possibly working with their SPCA and help out the local community animals. There we hope to participate in a spay-and-neuter clinic, which will help keep the feral animal populations under control. After Tanzania, we plan to go to South Africa in July to possibly work with wildlife and in conservation parks where we can get experience working with animals in their native habitat, and really get a unique chance to help and rehabilitate injured animals.
A little bit about ourselves:
Vivek: I am especially interested to work in Africa due to the Savannah and many conservation parks scattered throughout the continent. I am especially interested in big cats and plan on pursuing a career in wildlife medicine. Therefore, Tanzania and South Africa can provide me with an opportunity that I cannot get anywhere else in world – working with native cat species in their natural habitat. I really look forward to applying my knowledge and skills gained from OVC to contribute towards the local community and create a beneficial experience for everyone.
Noreen: Volunteering abroad with animals has been a lifelong dream of mine, and I am extremely excited to finally be doing this as part of Global Vets. I hope to be able to apply the knowledge I have learned here at the OVC in order to help animals and the communities we visit in Africa. Although I plan to be a small animal veterinarian, I am also looking forward to learning about working with wildlife as I believe the experience will be applicable to working with small animals. I also enjoy spending time outdoors and learning about different cultures, so I think Africa will be a perfect fit, allowing me to do what I love while hopefully making a difference in the lives of African people and animals.
