What is Global Vets?

Following completion of their second year of the DVM program, OVC students have the opportunity to participate in Global Vets. Interested students form independent groups and gain knowledge about current issues facing veterinary medicine in the developing countries of their choice.  With the guidance of the International Veterinary Medicine Club and faculty members at OVC, the students create project proposals based on the needs of their chosen region.  Participants are responsible for planning their project itineraries, making contacts in their host country, and raising sponsorship and awareness for their project. While abroad, student veterinarians in the program are able to collaborate with local veterinary teams to not only enhance and refine their own skills and knowledge, but offer their own insight and share unique perspectives from North American veterinary medicine. Upon their return home, students are expected to share their experiences with colleagues to create awareness of international challenges facing the health of animals and humans around the globe. In addition, the 2023’s participants will be responsible for guiding next year’s Global Vets team to continue the program’s success in years to come.
