Hello everyone! Our group is very excited to travel this summer 2016 to Southeast Asia as a part of the Global Vets initiative. We are motivated to make a difference in the lives of the animals while integrating ourselves with the local people. By working together with the staff and veterinarians at these placements, and applying our knowledge and skills that we have learned as student veterinarians thus far, we hope that we can make a positive and lasting impact. Many of the organizations that we will be working with are in dire need of supplies and staff – as such, your support would be greatly appreciated. With your help, we are committed to working hard towards our goals, and hopefully help to generate a few (or many) wagging tails along the way!

A little bit about ourselves:
Arianne: Growing up, I have always had a love for animals, especially intrigued by their behaviour; a curiosity that fueled my future ambitions to become a vet. The veterinary profession was a natural path to take in my studies, and I couldn’t be happier! My interests lie in small animal and exotic companion animal medicine, and as such, that is what initially drew me towards participating in Global Vets. Participating students of the Global Vets program undergo rigorous training, so that they may be prepared for any obstacles, and to be able to work together to overcome them. I am super excited to take part in helping and learning about the vast variety of animal species, as well as the people of Southeast Asia, and especially look forward to developing new and old skills!
Roxana: Volunteering abroad is something I have previously experienced, and it sparked a passion for me to continue doing so throughout my veterinary career. I am thrilled to be travelling with the Global Vets 2016 team, and could not ask for a better group of people to share this journey with! During my travels, I hope to apply what I have learned both practically and conceptually throughout my time as an OVC student, in order to assist in the care and treatment of animals in Southeast Asia. After graduation, I hope to work with both small animals and exotic species, so this experience is something that will be invaluable to me. I am excited to begin caring for these animals, immersing myself in different cultures, and establishing collaborations with fellow students, staff, and veterinary professionals.
Jastina: Before I got into veterinary college, I told myself that I was going to travel and take part in Global Vets. I am excited to finally be able to take part in this program and fulfill this dream. This will give me the opportunity to apply all the skills I have acquired at OVC and make a difference in the communities that we are travelling to. I am getting a chance to work with a variety of species including elephants, wildlife, dogs and cats. This vast array of species and the different environment in Thailand will open up a new outlook on veterinary care. In Canada, I plan to work with small animals and I hope to apply both techniques and knowledge learned through Global Vets to my practice. I hope that I get to make a difference while still being able to learn more about veterinarian medicine as a student.
Thalia: I am so excited that Global vets has created an opportunity for me to mix my two passions of caring for animals and travelling abroad! This experience will allow me to apply the knowledge I have obtained at OVC and apply it into veterinary settings, while hopefully making a difference in local communities. I look forward to collaborating and developing relationships with local citizens, veterinary colleagues and to continue to further develop my clinical skills. This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with the local species in Southeast Asia and this experience will definitely be an asset to my future. I could not have asked for a better team to go on this journey with, and I look forward to working with them over the course of two months!
